Hello all Just finished a 62 cal. rifle using a Pete Allan box lock action. Specs. Action-Pete Allan Barrel-Colerain 62 cal. 1 1/8 AF straight octagon 30 inches long Wood- Fancy Red maple Stained and finished with Tung oil Poured pewter nose cap Shotgun butt plate Cap box Sling studs Metal is finished Dark Brown Weight-11 lbs.
I changed the couture of the action some to help the lines. The Allan action works well with a 1 1/8 inch barrel as it matches the top of the action and works well with the sides with alittle work.
I chose the action threaded for a 5/16x24 nipple so that I could use a musket nipple.
The large checkered shotgun butt plate will make this rifle comfortable to shoot even with the heaviest loads.
I made the front swivel stud and used hard silver solder (45%) to attach it to the rear ramrod pipe. The pipe is attached to the under rib with hard silver solder (45%)
From these pictures in the white, you can see the subtle changes I made to the action. I think that really helped the "flow" of the rifle.
I also put a small cheek piece on the butt stock. This side really shows the figure in the wood!
I originally built this rifle as a spec. build, but I've been thinking of adding another 62 to my arsenal so until I make up my mind (or somebody else makes it up for me) I'll let it collect dust in the safe. Scott
